The Environmental Capacity and Technical Services (ECAS) is a think-tank that provides a platform for informed deliberations aimed at influencing environment/climate change policy in Kenya. We seek to bridge the policy-research-practice gap by focusing on building expertise for effective implementation of environmental policies, legislations, plans and strategies.Ours is to provide individuals, organizations and institutions with objective information about the state of knowledge regarding climate change, green economy, blue economy, sustainable development and natural resource-based policy and legislative frameworks as well as the tools and methods to protect and manage our environment in a sustainable manner.
ECAS has a strong commitment to contribute to the implementation and attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UNs 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development), African Agenda 2063 and the Paris Agreement and to support measures and initiatives geared towards the goal of keeping average warming below 2 degrees Celsius, while also sensitizing the public to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5 degrees.
Additionally, we aim at strengthening capacities to deal with the impacts of climate change. To make this task a reality, ECAS has designed a capacity building framework that contributes to efforts by development partners (and UN Agencies), national government and counties and private sector in line with their own mandates and objectives. In addition to our focus and emphasis on Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts), ECAS adopts an integrated approach that coalesce other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We seek to do all these in the spirit of "Talanoa Concept’’- a traditional word used in Fiji and across the Pacific to reflect a process of inclusive, participatory and transparent approach.
